Roshumba Williams is one of the front-row fixtures during New Zealand Fashion Week. Out of EVERYONE in Auckland, she worked it like she owned it. According to one of the fashion week minders volunteers I chatted to, Roshumba had 5 costume changes on Day 1 alone. Tinsley Mortimer is dat chu? People were talking about her throughout the week -- the press and photographers love her. All the kiwis were all like "she's a supermodel promoting her book" etc etc etc. OK. Who is Roshumba and why have I *NOT* heard of her before?
(YES I KNOW I'M TINY... BUT SHE'S 6-FOOT-1 AND SHE'S WEARING HEELS!)
Well, I finally got to sit beside her at the Trelise Cooper show where we chatted for a few minutes. She's really tall (6 foot 1!!!!), nice and super sweet. Turns out that she was a former model back in the day. As in, back in the dark ages when they didn't have the internet. Then she became a VH1 host... and she also came out with a book called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being a Model". Right. I see.
Now to all the oldies (but goodies) out here... do you remember Roshumba Williams? Answers on a postcard...
Jaeha is definitely one of my fave Kiwi designers and I'm so glad (and honored) to be able to attend his show. Designer Alex Kim held his show off-site in this gorgeous church smack right in the middle of Auckland. It's hysterical how everyone was drinking champagne at 9:30AM inside a church. I love it!
I *LOVE* his new collection! He made all these amazing androgynous tops and jackets with zips. The styling is also superb. So gorgeous! I have TONS of photos for y'all but you're gonna have to wait until I have quality online time.
Look at all those raging queens on the front row at AG Research. From left to right: Imogen (the blonde one), Ryan in a feathered "Bryanboy Originals" neckpiece and Rick Owens top, Me and Jolyon from Grazia.
Here's ickle ol' me at the Verge Breakthrough show with the American Jason on my left.
Bloggers unite! Here's a quick snapshot of Isaac (IsaacLikes.com) and his lovely partner Jordan. I love these two. They took me out to McDonald's the other day at 1AM. Tsk. I know, I know but what can I do? I love junk food...
Isn't it funny how we outqueened (is that even a word LOL) the girl?
World is one of New Zealand's most established fashion labels. I first heard of them from Patty a few months back. It's their first time to show after four years and it was World who opened Fashion Week.
In between shows, I went to Euro for lunch. I really love that place.
The service there is very fast, very swift and very efficient. We only had like an hour to spare so I went straight to the main course. I had grilled chicken with mashed potatoes.
They knew we were in a hurry and our waiter prepared our bill in advance. NO waiting at all! I thought that was very thoughtful and nice of them.
I'll definitely go back there before I leave for a proper, proper meal.
I went to the Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2008 opening party tonight. Here's a quick video of the honorable Helen Clark (New Zealand's Prime Minister). I took the vid towards the end of her speech but let me tell you -- she definitely made some very interesting statements earlier. I wish I took a video of the good bits but I was late.
Even John Banks, the Mayor of Auckland, was there. If you ask me, I think it's great -- it's always, always great -- whenever politicians show their support to the fashion industry.
Shower me with attention and inflate my ego. Email photos of your love and I'll add you to my ever-growing collection. Be creative! Be spontaneous! Send them to bryan@bryanboy.com today!
